| Distrobution | New Zealand (North Island and most nearshore island groups) Terra typica: South Sea Island. Scattered populations throughout New Zealand's North Island, and on most offshore islands. Inhabits forest and beaches.
All members of the Hoplodactylus genera are nocturnal, but will come out to bask occasionally. All are insectivorous, and will occasionally take fruit, berries, and nectar. Generally ground dwellers, except for granulatus and delcourti (in theory!!!), though all are known to climb into foliage to feed (except for cryptozoicus and kahutarae as there is no foliage to climb). |
| Notes | Similar to Hoplodactylus maculatus (in fact both were once thought ot be the same species) but with more striking patterns and colouration. Possibly a group of several closely related species or subspecies, but this needs further research. |
